A Proper Female Surf Film
This documentary works to combat mainstream, male dominated surf media that portrays male surfers as thrill seeking, talented athletes and female surfers as sexy models. The film follows a fifteen year old female surfer who shares her love and talent of surfing as well as her experiences of being out in the water as a female and in competitive surfing environments. While most surf films that include women are attempting to sell bikinis, this surf film gets up close to a strong female athlete, showing her with respect and love. The film emphasizes her surfing talent and her love of the sport.
