Finding Home: an Exploration of Self, is a series of three zines that explore the identity, experiences, and challenges of being a transracial Asian American adoptee born in China and raised in the United States. The concept of this series of zines derives from years of reflecting upon my own adoption experiences, and the complications of trying to navigate my identity that sits between my American cultural identity and my Chinese cultural heritage. The three adoptees that I chose to interview were all adopted from the same adoption agency as I, yet all have completely different conceptions regarding their adoption and experiences on how they have navigated their multifaceted identity. I hope that through sharing the raw experiences and voices of those from the Asian American adopted community, the topic of adoption will begin to become more normalized and better understood. I also hope that my zines will help to celebrate and empower individuals by generating a sense of individualism and creating a space for adopted voices to be heard.
